Disney World: A Survival Guide for Adults

Happiest place in on Earth? Of course. Hectic, crowded and hot? Yes, VERY true. So is it worth the trip for adults? Absolutely!  Disney World doesn’t just have to be for the little ones, it can be perfect for proposals, anniversaries (the reason I went), birthdays, etc. Today I’ve put together a little Disney World Survival Guide for Adults to help make your trip to Disney magical, enjoy reading!

Take it from me the Florida heat is NOT something to mess with. Even I, a Florida native, was beaten (badly I might add) by the intense heat. Unfortunately I even had to cut the day short because I had severely underestimated the Florida heat that day. If I could go back and do the day over I would definitely take my own advice I’m about to share, so I hope you do too!

  • Check the weather before hand.

If its not one thing, its another. By that I mean if its not the heat ready to take you down, its the rain. Make sure you are always prepared for whatever weather is going to come your way. All you need to do is download a weather app.

  • Stay hydrated.

You should be drinking plenty of water the day leading up to your trip to Disney, that way you are already hydrated. Also, buying a ton of water bottles will not only be expensive, but annoying to carry around. I suggest you buy one bottle per person and keep filling up at water fountains around the park. If you ever feel ill or lightheaded from too much heat do not hesitate to stop at any of the street vendors. The staff can provide you with free water cups and damp towels to help cool down. All you have to do is ask, and they’ll be there to help!

  • Keep yourself protected.

I’ve got two words for you… sun screen.  Sun screen needs to be your best friend throughout the entire day, otherwise you’ll most likely turn into a tomato. And who would want that to happen?

  • Dress appropriately.

Please, please, please do not be that one person who comes to Disney in jeans and a long sleeve shirt! You will regret it I promise… So just think light t-shirts, tanks, shorts. Personally I wore a jean skirt but I #diditforthegram, so I don’t actually recommend jean skirts! If you want me to go more in depth with Disney wardrobe let me know in the comments. I’ll make a separate post on Disney fashion if you want. 🙂

Today is definitely not the day to worry about cavities! Disney is home to some of the sweetest treats around, which in my opinion is why Disney is the happiest place on Earth. Here are a few must eat treats:

Main Street Confectionary

  • Mickey Chocolate Chip Cookie
  • Mickey Specialty Caramel Apple (my personal favorite)
  • Milk Chocolate S’more Square
  • Mickey Rice Crispy Treats
  • and so much more yumminess

If your mouth isn’t drooling right now then there’s something very wrong…

Like I mentioned before I wore a jean skirt to the park, which wasn’t the smartest decision but hey I didn’t let that stop me from getting on rides! Jean skirt and all I never miss these rides and you shouldn’t either! 🙂

  • Space Mountain
  • Astro Orbiter

Frontier Land

  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Fantasy Land

  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • Its a Small World
  • Mad Tea Party
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic ***(if you really want to feel the magic of Disney, this is a must!)
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Trail

Located on Disney’s Board walk is the unique AbracadaBar lounge. This bar has colorful and tasty cocktails that all contain one special ingredient– a splash of magic. Curious? Here’s the Menu.

Cinderella’s Royal Table

Dine with the Disney Princesses inside of the Cinderella Castle. Make sure you have a reservation beforehand (weeks or months ahead to be safe) because they will not take walk ins.

Thanks for reading! I hope your trip is magical. Don’t be a stranger, let me know if you need more tips for your trip to Disney. Also, if you’ve been to Disney before I’d love to know what your favorite memory was! Leave me comments below. 🙂

Have A Magical Day,

A really helpful guide and I couldn’t agree more! A tip I would also add is leave the confectionary for nearer the end of the day! Morning or early afternoon led to melty and sticky chocolate that made such a mess! Deffo a nice treat in the late afternoon/evening! and water! A MUST!!

I had the same perspective! It’s definitely not always a perfect experience, but I hoping my tips prevent some issues and inspire doing different activities there like the Abracadabra Bar! 🙂

These are all great tips. We used to visit Disney World every year when our kids were little but we haven’t been there in a long time now. I definitely want to go back now!

Epcot is the perfect place for adults too! I would definitely recommend drinking around the world in Epcot if you aren’t into all the rides 🙂

Hydrate. It seems such a silly, simple thing, but you’d be amazed how many people get so caught up in dashing about that they forget they’re often doing so on a hot day in Central Florida ! And another important tip for me: let yourself have fun ! You can take yourself as seriously as you want in the real world, but if you don’t get your picture taken with Goofy, you’re missing out 🙂

Yes, absolutely! Having fun is the most important thing! I didn’t get to find Goofy, but I did find Mary Poppins and of course got a photo with her 🙂

I only went to Disney once when I was in high school. Now, I’m sure I’d take way more advantage of the food (isn’t there some kind of adult-only area onsite that has many restaurants and bars, but is outside of the park itself? And forget standing in line – I heard you can now skip the queues with a special pass. Clearly, I need to get myself back to Disney pronto!

I believe you are thinking of Epcot, which is filled with restaurants/ bars that are inspired from every part of the world. Children are still allowed, but its mostly geared towards adults. Also, those would be fast passes which is an additional cost, but if you’re there for the rides it may be a great investment. Thanks for reading, Julie 🙂

Thanks for the informative blogpost it has some good tips. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Disneyland in Paris. But I’ll probably visit Disney World next year. It’s cool to read that a lot of adults enjoy it as well.

I’m sure that the Disney world is definitely not just for the kids! It’s one of the places that’s high on my list and hope I’ll be able to visit it soon. Some great tips here! Didn’t know that the summer can be this severe in Florida!

It’s almost as if the heat becomes 100 times as intense when you’re in Disney, so I wanted to make sure everyone could be prepared! You definitely should go soon if its something on your bucket list 🙂 Thanks for reading, Reshma!

Disney has been around so long that the average adult has grown up with them. Visiting should automatically bring out the kid in you. It does for me…but then again I have a Peter Pan complex. I’ve been on a Disney cruise once and it was one of the best experiences I every had!!! Forget the kids I’d be pushing them out of the way so I can be first on the Dumbo ride hee hee

This is so true! Another great thing about being in Disney is living like a kid again for one day without any responsibilities. A Disney Cruise sounds amazing I’ll have to look into booking one eventually, thanks for reading! 🙂
